Which AGA Cooker is Right for You?

The AGA Collection is broader than you might imagine, with cookers for very different kitchens and very different cooks.  Choosing the right one comes down to a handful of practical things: how much space you have, how you cook, how many ovens you'd like and what ovens, hotplates and hob would suit you best.

The perfect place to begin is to look at your life and cooking style. Do you cook every day? Is a weekend lunch usually for four or fourteen? Do you want only the traditional experience of cast-iron cooking, or would you like conventional ovens and induction alongside it? And, just as importantly, how much room do you have?

If Space Is At A Premium

You don’t need a large kitchen to have an AGA cooker. At just 60cm wide, the AGA Mini Cast Iron is the same width as a standard kitchen cabinet, but inside are two substantial cast-iron heat-storage ovens: one for roasting and baking and one for simmering. It’s perfect if space is limited but the distinctive experience of cooking with radiant heat is important to you. It is available with either the iconic AGA hotplate or a gas hob.

The AGA Mini Conventional is also 60cm wide but offers a very different way to cook. Rather than cast-iron heat-storage ovens, it has a conventional fan oven, slow-cook oven and integral grill, with a choice of a gas or ceramic hob. It is a good place to start if you love the look and character of an AGA but prefer conventional cooking.

If you want cast-iron cooking with induction built-in

The AGA Compact combines two cast-iron ovens with induction and an AGA hotplate, giving you radiant-heat cooking alongside the speed and control of induction. At 90cm, 100cm or 110cm wide, and with a shallower depth than the Classic and Signature, it is designed to sit neatly with standard kitchen cabinetry.

All three sizes include roasting/baking and simmering cast-iron ovens plus a stainless-steel warming oven. The 90cm and 100cm versions have two induction zones, while the 110cm gives you three. It is worth considering if you want the distinctive experience of cast-iron cooking alongside the everyday convenience of induction.

If you want maximum control over traditional AGA cooking

The AGA Signature takes the familiar cast-iron AGA experience and gives you much greater control. Its ovens and hotplates can be operated independently, and the roasting and baking ovens offer a choice of temperature settings controlled through a touchscreen.

The 100cm cooker gives you three dedicated cast-iron ovens for roasting, baking and simmering, together with the traditional boiling and simmering hotplates. If you cook frequently, love the particular qualities of cast-iron cooking and want the freedom to control each part of your AGA around the way you live, the AGA Signature is a natural fit for you.

If you want cast iron, induction and a conventional oven together

The AGA Signature Induction is for cooks who don’t necessarily want to choose between different ways of cooking. It combines cast-iron heat-storage cooking with a conventional fan oven, two-zone induction hob and an AGA hotplate that can be set to boiling or simmering.

It is particularly useful for households where different people cook in different ways, or for keen cooks who want radiant heat for a slow-cooked casserole or roast alongside the speed of induction and the quick heat of a fan oven. Everything can be controlled independently, so you can use exactly what you need.

If the traditional AGA way of life is what you love

The AGA Classic is the closest expression of the original AGA. Its three cast-iron ovens are designed to remain ready for use, bringing useful warmth into the kitchen as well as providing dedicated roasting, baking and simmering environments.

It has four temperature settings, including an eco-mode and simple controls. Its two hotplates can be switched on and off independently, saving on energy use. If you cook often, love the warmth and rhythm associated with a traditional AGA and want your cooker ready whenever inspiration strikes, this is the perfect choice for you.

If you want the most contemporary expression of AGA

The AGA ERA brings together cast-iron cooking and a distinctly contemporary design. At 110cm wide, it has two cast-iron heat-storage ovens for roasting, baking and simmering, alongside a conventional fan oven, powerful grill, four-zone induction hob and controllable cast-iron hotplate.

Everything is controlled by touchscreen. It is a particularly compelling choice if you cook frequently, want several cooking methods available at once and need the flexibility to move easily between everyday suppers and cooking for a gathering.

If you need more cooking space

Choosing your AGA doesn’t necessarily stop with the cooker itself. The AGA Signature, AGA Classic and AGA Compact can be paired with extension modules, allowing you to add extra ovens, hob space and warming functions to create a cooker around the way you cook.

For the Signature and Classic, 50cm and 60cm extension modules open up configurations from 150cm to 210cm, with options including induction, warming plates, gas or ceramic hobs, slow-cook and warming ovens, a fan oven and grill. The Compact can be paired with a 60cm extension module, adding a tall conventional fan oven and simmering plate.

So, if you cook for a large family, entertain often or simply want the freedom of more ovens and different ways to cook, you can build on the AGA you love with the additional cooking space and functions you need.

Think about how you really cook

The number of ovens you need often becomes obvious when you think about your busiest cooking days. If you mostly cook for one or two, two ovens may be all you need. If Sunday lunch regularly fills the table, you entertain often or Christmas involves feeding a crowd, additional ovens and cooking surfaces can give you valuable extra space.

Think about the hob in the same way. If you love an AGA hotplate, make it part of your decision. If you would also like to use induction every day, look at the AGA Compact, Signature Induction or ERA. And if you want a conventional fan oven alongside cast-iron cooking, consider the Signature Induction, ERA or an extension module that gives you the additional conventional cooking you need.

The right AGA should feel right not simply for your kitchen, but for the way you cook in it.
