Macaroni Cheese

Mac 'n' cheese is the perfect traditional dish for any occasion - whether it's a midweek meal, a side dish or a weekend bake, this creamy pasta dish hits the spot.

Macaroni Cheese

Ingredients

  • 400g macaroni pasta
  • 40g butter
  • 40g plain flour
  • 500ml milk
  • A pinch or two of salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 125g mature cheddar cheese, grated

You will need a gratin or baking dish, approx 30cm x 15cm. The AGA Portmerion Gratin dish is ideal.

Method

  1. Bring a pan of salted water to the boil on the AGA boiling plate and cook the macaroni pasta according to packet instructions, usually 10 - 12 minutes.

  2. Meanwhile, make the cheese sauce.  Place a medium sized pan on the AGA simmering plate. Add the butter and flour. Once the butter has melted, stir well together and cook for a few minutes.  Add the milk a little at a time and stir well to thicken. Once all the milk is incorporated, season with salt and pepper and add half the grated cheese.

  3. Once the pasta is cooked, drain off the water and add the sauce. Stir well together and pour into a baking dish.  Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top and cook at the top of the AGA roasting oven, on the first or second set of runners for 10 mins or just until the cheese is browned and bubbling on the top.

  4. Serve hot.
