It's also brilliant for adding in any leftover chocolate or biscuits and will go well with an afternoon cup of tea.

Chocolate Orange Tiffin

125g butter
100g syrup
200g ginger biscuits, broken into chunky pieces
400g dark chocolate - 200g for the tiffin and 200g to melt on top (optional)
The zest of an orange
100g raisins or other dried fruit eg dates
75g pistachios or other dried fruit eg hazelnuts, almonds

Tip: you will also need a shallow dish approx. 15cm x 15cm. The AGA Portmeirion White Gratin Dish is a good size. Line the dish with greaseproof paper.

  1. Melt the butter, syrup and 200g of the chocolate together.

Tip: this can be done in the AGA warming oven where it will take 30 mins, or in a bowl on the back of the AGA if the tops are on.

  2. Once melted and smooth, add the orange zest, broken biscuits, dried fruit and nuts and stir well.
  3. Pour into the lined dish and chill in the fridge for an hour or two until set.
  4. Meanwhile, to top with melted chocolate, melt the remaining 200g chocolate in a bowl in the same way. Stir and once the tiffin is cold, pour on top and smooth out.
  5. Top with a few pieces of sliced preserved candied oranges or seasonal decoration such as lightly broken mini eggs.
  6. Store in the fridge. Suitable for freezing.
