When Sarah set out to update the kitchen in her 1980s detached home on the edge of a small Shropshire town, her vision was clear: a sociable space with a showstopping cooker. The final result was exactly that, a beautiful kitchen centred around the impressive AGA eR7i Black Edition. 

Journalist and TV presenter Mariella Frostrup and her husband, the human rights lawyer Jason McCue, weren’t planning on moving to Somerset, but fate intervened. On their many visits to stay with a close friend nearby, the acclaimed photographer Don McCullin, they passed a house and knew that should it ever come up for sale they would not be able to resist. 

“We would peer over the wall and dream of living there,” Mariella says. “We just fell in love.” 

Nikki and James – along with their daughters, Lucy and Annie – have called their 1930s house in North Wales their home for the past 14 years. Eight years ago, they extended the property and last year they decided to embark on a new project: moving the kitchen into an extension that overlooks the picturesque Conwy Mountain.

“It’s just so lovely looking out over the view and the garden,” Nikki says, “and as everyone congregates in the kitchen it made sense to have it in the bigger room.”

Sally Denning and her family moved into their Cotswold farmhouse just before the pandemic. They didn’t begin any major work until after the lockdowns ended, which gave them the opportunity to live in the space before deciding how they wanted it to feel.

When Liz Yule and her husband Will renovated the kitchen in their forever home in Puttenham in Surrey, they wanted to create a space that was in keeping with the feel of the Grade II-listed Jacobean house while also offering everything a modern family kitchen should.
