AGA Cookshop raises £15K for Dogs Trust
AGA Cookshop along with AGA Shops have donated £15K for the Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. The sum was raised from the sale of its hugely popular Top Dog Textiles range where 5% of every sale was donated to the charity. AGA also raised funds through its shops nationwide through staff holding events in stores. With the partnership now at a close, Sarah Jenkinson, AGA Cookshop Brand Manager presented a cheque to staff at Roden Dogs Trust in Shrewsbury on 4th May.
The donation will go towards the care a litter of 16 week old Collie puppies, handed into Dogs Trust when their owner could not care for them. Named after sweet treats you could make using an AGA cooker - Crumble, Roulade, Biscuit and Custard - they are just five of the 17,000 dogs looked after by Dogs Trust every year through its network of 21 rehoming centres in the UK and Ireland.
Louise Campbell, Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre Manager, says:
"We are immensely grateful for this donation from AGA Cookshop. These funds will go towards providing vital care for the puppies and dogs in our rehoming centres whilst they await new homes. It costs Dogs Trust approximately £31 to care for a dog a day, which can include veterinary treatment, basic needs like toys and bedding and one to one time with the rehoming centre staff. On average a dog will be in our care for 39 days before they go off to their new home, but because we commit to never putting a healthy dog to sleep some dogs can be with us for longer if their needs are more complex.”
Louise adds: “To keep the dogs happy and to minimise kennel stress we constantly strive to find creative ways to keep their environment interesting, whether it be in their exercise areas or their kennels. Toys, comfortable bedding and games in their play runs all help, along with the dedication of the canine carers and veterinary staff. We could not carry out our work without the support of the public and donations like this from AGA go a long way to making life more comfortable for the dogs in our care.”
Caroline Smith, Commercial Manager at AGA Cookshop says:
"We are proud to have supported Dogs Trust and managed to raise such a significant amount for the charity. This has been through customer donations, events in stores and 5% of every item sold from our Unique Top Dog textiles. The Dogs Trust staff are incredibly passionate about all dog breeds and it has been wonderful to see the care and attention they put into looking after so many different dogs. Many of our staff own and love dogs themselves so it seemed fitting to support a charity that we know does great work locally in Shrewsbury as well as on a national scale. Two members of our staff have gone on to adopt dogs from Dogs Trust Shrewsbury and it's a cause that has captured our hearts."
